Fear — Fire — Foes — Awake! The Oklahoma Legislature is in session! Hang onto your wallets, be wary for your civil liberties! The biennial loot-fest is now in session, and the Capitol is crowded with legislators ready to write checks and lobbyists manipulating the best legislators that money can buy.
“So that’s the stench that’s been emanating from north-central Oklahoma City this past week, ” you muse.
Yes, it’s true, now is the time for all good politicians to reward their friends and punish their enemies. What other reason is there for them being there? The Common Good? What are you, some kind of LIBERTARIAN COMMUNISTIC IDEALIST?
And the white-sheet lynch mob is running wild. We’re gonna deny babies from immigrant mothers birth certificates, take away their property rights, kick their kids out of our schools, and generally do the best we can to run them out of the state.
Leaving behind, of course, numerous empty houses and apartments all across town, more houses for sale glutting a market where property values are already declining, more foreclosures, more broken homes, separated families. In the opinion of the crooked thieving politicians in the state legislature, Oklahoma does NOT have anywhere near enough misery, horror, and troubles. We need more! And alas for the common good, the Legislature is perfectly willing and able to give us all the misery, horror, and troubles their pointy little heads can dream up.
The governor? Mary Queen of Lynch Mobs Fallin wants to balance her budget by collecting two years of auto registration fees in one year. What do we for that revenue the next year? Don’t think about that, we’ll worry about that when we get there.
It’s not as if there aren’t plenty of real problems out there. Folks will wait in vain though for the Legislature to lift its ideological nose and even deign to take the slightest notice of those real problems. They are content to be part of the problem.
And so it will come to pass that with leadership like this, Oklahoma is a state that is headed for the ash heap of history.
